Isabella is enjoying trying every food we can come up with. I've adventured into making food for her because she cannot eat bananas, apples or rice and a lot of commercial baby food contains one of those foods. Once I started, I was hooked! It looks better, smells better, and tastes better than jarred baby food. After looking around and comparing, I can buy organic produce and make her baby food much cheaper than buying it in the stores. Sure it takes planning but it is all worth it to us. So far we've made pears, peaches, mango, sweet potatoes, green beans, strawberries and squash. Mango and squash were new foods for me to learn about determining freshness and how to cook them but they turned out to be relatively easy. Some foods are not in season right now and we're using organic frozen fruits from the grocery store. I thought I'd show those who are interested the process. Super easy, super fun and even Mark has been enjoying this adventure!
First, the foods need to be prepared so they're soft. I boil pears, bake sweet potatoes, squash and green beans and just cut up the softer fruits.

Puree and put in ice cube trays. One cube is one ounce of food so we know how much she is eating.

The next morning I pop them all out and put them in freezer bags and label them. I only freeze one type of fruit, I don't mix them. I have found that it is easy to mix them for her meals the next day. For example, I currently have a bowl in the fridge of one cube of squash and another bowl of one cube strawberry, one cube pear. Tonights dinner will be squash and pear-strawberry! She loves it and so do we!
